The mission of Visible Men is to elevate black boys and men to new heights of achievement, fulfillment, happiness and societal contribution by connecting young black boys, and those who care for them, with successful black men. We are unique in our emphasis on success imagery – educating around what is working for black boys and men in America, rather than what is failing.
Our fund-raising efforts are presently focused on 3 areas of need:
1. The inVision Project:
Our program for schools and community agencies, the inVision Project immerses participants in the study of success achievement and fulfillment. Students engage with accomplished black men in their communities to create written, audio, and video reports on their subjects. These reports are the basis for inVision Project group discussions which are facilitated by school representatives with the support of local Visible Men. Participants earn Visible Men Dollars – monetary credits that go towards covering college expenses – upon completion of the inVision Project. The pilot program has already begun in 2009 in the Metropolitan DC area. Funds for this project will be allocated for Visible Men Dollars, program materials and compensating the InVision Project Coordinators.
2. Media Equipment:
We are committed to a massive “Image Campaign” designed to enhance the image of Black men in America. We will utilize state-of-the-art technology and equipment to capture multimedia content.
3. General Operations:
Visible Men uses the expertise of a business development consultant, virtual administrative assistant, legal advisor, web site designer and an online background checking service to screen our Visible Men applicants. Funds are needed to support these operating costs as well as additional administrative costs as we expand.
