The mission of Visible Men is to elevate black boys and men to new heights of achievement, fulfillment, happiness and societal contribution.
We achieve our mission by connecting young black boys, and those who care for them, with successful black men. We are unique in our emphasis on success imagery – educating around what is working for black boys and men in America, rather than what is failing.
Our fundraising efforts are presently focused on 3 areas of need:
1. The inVision Project: The inVision Project is the Visible Men program for schools and community agencies. The program will immerse participants in the study of success achievement, and fulfillment. Participating students engage in the program by interacting with accomplished black men in their communities. The students create theme-based “reports” on their subjects, consisting of written, audio taped, and video taped content. These reports serve as the basis for inVision Project group discussions, which are facilitated by a school representative with the support of local Visible Men. Participating students earn Visible Men Dollars, which are monetary credits to go towards college expenses upon completion of the inVision Project. The pilot program commences in school year 2009-2010 at 5 schools; 3 in the Metropolitan DC area, and 2 at yet to be determined schools outside of the DC area. Funds for this project will be allocated for 1) compensating the InVision Project Coordinators, 2) Visible Men Dollars, 3) program materials.
2. Media Equipment: We are an organization committed to a massive “Image Campaign” through which we aspire to enhance the imagery of Black men in America. We will utilize state-of-the-art technology and equipment to capture multi-media content.
3.General operations: Visible Men utilizes the expertise of a business development consultant, a virtual administrative assistance, a legal advisor, web site designer, and an online background checking service to screen our Visible Men applicants. Funds are needed to support these operating costs and additional administrative costs as we expand.
